We participated in the World Human Powered Speed Challenge (WHPSC) also this year. Last year, we set a record of 132 km/h and took second place in the race. The winning team set a world record of 144 km/h. There was a large difference (as large as 12 km/h) between us. The Super Ketta Team aims to set a world record with the next model and thinks that it is necessary to collect more data to establish a world record. They decided to participate in the competition and hurriedly refined last year’s machine.
The competition is held in Battle Mountain, Nevada, US in September every year. Participants compete for speed of a human-powered vehicle in the last 200 meters of the 8-km straight course. The competition is held for one week. Teams that get through the preliminary competition can make 10 attempts in the final competition at a maximum. This year, 23 teams participated in the competition. We passed the preliminary race with the top-class speed of 108 km/h. However, in the final selection, all our records did not satisfy the wind speed requirements so that they are not approved officially. Incidentally, our record was 122.66 km/h. However, we obtained the running data that cannot be obtained through this challenge and valuable expertise learned from the repetitive challenges. Maybe next year or the year after, we develop a new original bicycle and try to set a world’s top speed.
